Who we are

Jérôme, originating from the French speaking part of Belgium and Tine, originating from the Flemish speaking part of the country, the reason why the posts on this blog alternate between French and Flemish (and some English…). We met in 2007 on an airplane coming back from Cambodia, so from the beginning travelling has been part of our story. After our second daughter was born the idea to leave for a year with the kids saw light. After having nr 3 the time was right and we started looking at maps, exploring the possibilities of taking a year off, thinking about where, when, and how. We knew travelling with three young children and living with them in a 12 square meters space (as we soon decided to travel in a camper) would be a great challenge. On the other hand, what a great opportunity to see our three children grow up from up close, seeing them explore the world, meet people and get introduces to different cultures! So in april 2016, the kids being 6, 4 and 2, we headed east, for a one year journey that led us through magnificent places and introduced us to so many amazing people (our blogposts from that year can be found in the menu under “Silkroute ’16-’17”). After a year we headed back to Brussels with the feeling to have experienced something very special, something that since then lingers in our hearts and house as something of a secret, of which only we know the details and remember the feeling. And yes it was a great challenge being together all the time, so returning home felt good to all of us. When we put the camper for sale Tine got a small emotional breakdown fearing to become a boring conventional family, so when Jérôme, seeing the camper wasn’t selling, decided that maybe we should keep it, the whole family was relieved! Dreams started to take form, plans were drafted, and after much debating the decision was taken: on the road again! So in april 2020, exactly 3 years after returning home from our Asia-travels, we are headed to South-America, where we will pick up our loyal Vario at the port of Cartagena, Colombia, after which we have a year ahead of us to explore South-America.
